Run by Owen Hawk and his partner, Matthias von Fistenberg, Dark Alley has made a name for itself by, in Owen's words, mixing "European naturalness with American masculinity and flavor." Staying true to its name, the studio takes its viewers and fans into dark alleys and industrial landscapes, incorporating leather, slings, toys--and fists for that matter-- but it's the one-camera voyeuristic filming approach that in Matthias's opinion, sets them apart.

Jersey affords the company cheaper rent as well. Dark Alley boasts a 1500 square-foot production facility, complete with a fisting set built by a Broadway set designer. Watch out Chorus Line! Being formal models, Owen and Matthias show us that making movies is a lot more work, but a lot more fulfilling as well. In only the past few months the boys have made headlines across the country when they announced the release of their latest opus, Gaytanamo.

No doubt based upon the American-controlled torture and detainment camps at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, some have decried the film as capitalizing off of the suffering of others. Owen struck back on the popular blog Queerty, saying "Gaytanamo does not trivialize peoples suffering, but uses images and representations in order to attempt change in perception... When we are put in front of the reality of our own violent desires, we are no doubt uncomfortable. But it is precisely because are not put in front of these desires -- and therefore never get to understand them -- that policies born out of this repression, a la Guantanamo, are even possible."
